We often place our happiness in the future, believing that when we finally get the job we dream of, meet the person we'll fall in love with, make the money we desire, and travel to the places we want to visit most, that we'll be rid of all our issues. By making happiness a destination rather than our home, we unknowingly take for granted the gifts of our lives right now. We're always looking to change something about ourselves and our lives, thinking that when everything finally falls into place as we wish it will, that we'll finally be at peace.
The truth though? If you're thinking that you'll be happy when a specific day comes or with a certain person, job, or lifestyle, then you're most likely never going to be fulfilled because nothing but yourself and your mindset can bring you the contentment you crave. I think about this topic a lot (I'm sure for those of you who follow along with my Instagram posts, you already know this) which is why I made this my first weekly challenge.
So! For the first weekly challenge, I ask this question in the hopes that you'll not only think about your life in a more loving and appreciative way, but that you'll begin seeking out things to be grateful for rather than focusing on the absence of what you're desiring.
Let me know how this Weekly Awareness is working for you and if you like this idea of choosing a new mindset or practice to experiment with each week. I always love to hear from you! And lucky me! Now I don't only get to hear from you, I'm able to see how everyone is interacting with this forum and each other! Thanks for joining me on this journey, I hope the rest of this week brings you the heightened awareness you're seeking.
This week's Weekly Awareness: What is it about your life now that you'd realize you took for granted if things were to suddenly change? Where can you find the beauty in your existence, as it is, right now?
Time. A friend once compared sand in a sand timer and our life expectancy and told me that "the sand never stops running, this is all we got". If I reach 90, my life is more than half over.
Existence: now.
